Punyelroo Cave in the river cliffs near Swan Reach is a long cave requiring plenty of stooping, some crawling and a bit of genuine grovelling to traverse. Appears to be formed in corraline limestone as evidenced by numerous shell deposits in the walls. A base of sand and clay is well trampled by frequent cave trips...sadly a fair bit of grafitti also suggestes heavy traffic over the years.
No speleothems but a very pretty cave all the same. One small water pool which Peter Horne dived in 1985 lies deep in the cave. No underwater extensions.
Carlo and Sue Virgili and kids joined the Harris family on a bit of a day out here in September 2006. Excellent cave for a bit of family caving. |
